State of the Art Vehicle Simulation Control

The Servotest VTS (Vehicle Test System) software incorporates the latest bespoke user interface for integrated 4-poster road simulation control.
The VTS software designed by Servotest in conjunction with many Automotive simulation engineers, is an integral part of the DCS 2000 servo controller and gives test engineers highly accurate control over the simulation and the ability to reproduce time history files faster and more simply that ever before. All Servotest vehicle simulation systems are shipped with this unique solution as standard.
The simulator typically consists of 4 identical vehicle loading modules, using Servotest servohydraulic actuators fitted with precision hydrostatic bearings, providing friction free low distortion operation and the capability to withstand high side loads normally experienced on this type of vehicle simulator.

Using the Servotest Ace-5 actuator performance software to accurately model the system dynamics, various servovalve combinations can be fitted to provide the customer with tailored system performance, to meet precise test vehicle response. This includes the ability to switch servovalves, depending on the application requirement, such as, Durability, NVH, Ride Comfort and Squeak and Rattle.
DCS Vehicle Test Software uses the DCS 2000 digital control systemfor full control of the 4 vehicle loading modules and contains easy to use control panels for the entire simulator.

An inbuilt database gives full configuration of all the software modules to match the test system being controlled, additionalfunctionality includes a link panel to provide either independent or linked axle control.
Time history reproduction can be accomplished with the addition of the optional ICS Analysis software module.

Transmission Test Systems
Hyundai Motor Company.
Five identical transmission test systems and data analysis packages are operational at two separate Hyundai Research sites in South Korea. Each bed has the capability of logging up to 40 high-speed channels (25 kHz) at a resolution of 16-bit. Both sites are connected by a network and modem link. These installations have been operational since 1994.
One complete gearbox test rig to measure shift feel quality under different operating and climatic conditions. The rig power module consists of a 40 kW AC motor and flywheel set to simulate a variety of vehicle inertias. The output shaft drives either a manual, or automatic gearbox test piece. Gear changing to a pre-programmed schedule is achieved using an adapted CP Robot. The gearbox test piece is mounted on a back plate with a low coefficient of thermal conductivity, and enclosed in a heavily insulated box. A separate climate control module can set a temperature in the insulated box between -40 o C and +80 o C. The CADET test system can program gearshifts, gearbox temperature and gearbox speed. High-speed data-logging measures shift ’feel' using a strain gauged gear lever.
Lubrizol Laboratories.
CP Engineering has supplied a transmission test system to this site, having closed loop control of speeds and loads on an automotive gearbox. The test train being DC motor, test piece and EC dynamometer.
Winsmex.
CP Engineering have supplied robots to operate with existing chassis dynamometers installed at this motorcycle manufacturer in Taiwan. Automatic motorcycles require only a throttle control system, with manual motorcycles having the addition of clutch lever and gear change actuators. Both systems operate in conjunction with the chassis dynamometer, to offer speed, torque and positional control.
